Virtual Exchange for educators

An adult teacher on a live video call online engaging in a virtual exchange with other teachers

What is a Virtual Exchange?

Virtual exchange is an innovative educational approach that uses online technology to connect learners from different parts of the world so they can engage in collaborative learning, projects and meaningful interactions.

This digital interaction can happen synchronously (real-time conversations) or asynchronously (forum posts, recorded videos, etc.). Edevo facilitates virtual exchanges for educators that are predominantly real-time.

They offer participants the chance to develop global knowledge, networks, connections, and pedagogies, as well as enhance communication skills, digital literacy, and a deeper understanding of global perspectives. All without the need for physical travel.

Virtual exchanges are essentially a way to have a global educational exchange experience from the comfort of one's own home or classroom.

Why participate?

Engaging in a virtual exchange offers numerous benefits for educators.

  1. Professional Development: Teachers can share pedagogical approaches, teaching resources, and methodologies with counterparts from around the world, broadening teaching knowledge, strategies and practice.
  2. Global Networking: Virtual exchange helps build a network of educators across different countries and cultures, fostering collaboration and potential partnerships.
  3. Enhance Own Cultural Competency: By interacting with educators from diverse backgrounds, teachers can gain a deeper understanding of their own and diverse cultures, which you can integrate into teaching.
  4. Flexibility: Without the need for physical travel, teachers can engage in meaningful international experiences from the comfort of their own home or school, fitting around their schedules.
  5. Digital Literacy: Engaging in virtual exchanges can boost teachers' proficiency with digital tools and platforms, an increasingly essential skill in modern education.
  6. Increased Student Engagement: When teachers bring global perspectives into the classroom through their own experiences, it can make lessons more engaging and relevant for students.
  7. Affordability: Virtual exchanges often come at a fraction of the cost of physical exchanges or travel, making them accessible to more educators.
  8. Inclusivity: Virtual exchanges can be a more inclusive option, allowing those who might be unable to travel due to physical, financial, schedules, or other constraints to engage in international educational experiences.
  9. Continuous Learning: The dynamic nature of virtual exchange often means that there's always something new to learn, be it a teaching method, a cultural nuance, or a digital tool.
  10. Adaptability: Engaging in virtual exchanges can help teachers become more adaptable and resilient, as they learn to navigate the challenges of online communication and collaboration.

What's the content and structure?

Edevo facilitate a range of virtual exchange programs for educators from short one-off or multiple session exchanges to longer sustained exchanges. Exchanges are tailored to years of experienced and sector such as new graduates, highly experienced, primary and secondary, as well as topic.

  3. Innovative and Global Pedagogies: Sharing and experimenting with different teaching methodologies, like inquiry-based learning, flipped classrooms, or project-based learning.
  4. Classroom Management in a Virtual World: Strategies for keeping students engaged and maintaining discipline in an online classroom.
  5. Global Issues Forums: Addressing topics such as climate change, human rights, and global health from a multidisciplinary perspective, allowing educators to incorporate them into their curriculum.
  6. SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) in Digital Spaces: Strategies for fostering emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills among students in a virtual classroom.
